Welcome
to St. James Community Square
We are a non-profit
and charitable organization dedicated to providing affordable space
to the community for educational, cultural, recreational and social
activities. St. James Community Square (SJCS) is located in Vancouver
in the heart of Kitsilano.
We have about 5,500 people registered for, or participating in,
programs at the site and our facility
hosts an estimated 350,000 user visits per year. There are numerous
special events held through out
the year.
St. James Community
Square is an independent organization and does not receive financial
support for operating expenses. Capital upgrades and renovations
are ongoing and have been carried out with assistance from various
sponsors. Support from community members
is extremely helpful in the ongoing efforts to maintain and upgrade
the facilities. Your support can be shown by taking out a membership
at a nominal cost of a $2.00 donation. Of course any other donations
you would be willing to make will be gratefully accepted, and a
tax receipt will be issued for donations over $10.00.
Wheelchair accessibility - Update September 22, 2009
The 40+ year old wheel chair lift has been replaced with a new model that can carry up
to 1,000 pounds/454 kg. Handicapped access to St. James Hall has been significantly improved
and new access to the western portion of the main floor has been created.
This improvement has been made possible with financial assistance from The City of Vancouver,
Canada Western Bank, The Highbury Foundation, F.K. Morrow Foundation, The John Hardie Mitchell Foundation,
and The Hylcan Foundation, plus individual donors.
